Research Friends,
Please read this entire update from the College Board about our course. I find it helpful and encouraging for us! The message below is directly quoted from the email with my edits in brackets. "In response to the challenges presented by the coronavirus (COVID-19) and associated school closures, the Advanced Placement® Program is making the following changes to the AP® Research assessment for 2020. •The assessment will include only the Academic Paper component. •The Presentation and Oral Defense (POD) won't be included in the assessment, and therefore doesn't need to be scored by AP Research teachers. Students must submit their Academic Papers in the AP Digital Portfolio by the extended deadline of May 26, 11:59 p.m. ET, in order for their work to be scored. [Johnson note: as you know, I need more time to review your papers, so our paper is due 2 weeks BEFORE this] No further extensions will be granted. While presentations no longer count toward students’ final AP Research scores, the POD may be completed and used for classroom grades [Johnson note: I've emailed Mr. Auld about coming up with a solution for presentations so you are prepared for senior year]... [I am told to] advise [you] that [you] can still earn qualifying scores of three or higher even if [your] research methods can’t be executed because of unforeseen conditions. A virtual lesson on addressing method challenges in the Academic Paper will be made available for teachers and students in early April [Johnson note: The date isn't announce, but I will keep checking!!]." In closing: I think this is GREAT news for us. So many of you have been concerned about your interrupted methods. I am looking forward to the virtual lesson and learning how to support you. I'd love if as many of as possible attend that session. Once it's announced, I will plan to attend. I believe the lesson will also be recorded.
