Ms. Johnson's Guidelines for Digital Learning
The guidelines below apply to all courses.
- Communication: I will communicate expectations with you by 9 AM each morning. Please communicate with me if you need any help or if I can better meet your needs.
- Office hours: Drop-in office hours are 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Send me a remind message or email, and I will respond quickly. You do not need to make an appointment with me to ask questions during this time.
- One-on-one conferencing/tutoring: Between 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM, I will be available for one-on-one video/online chat sessions. For now, these sessions will be limited to 10 minutes per student since I anticipate having more research requests for conferences during our first week away. I hope to be able to increase the time available. If, by the time we meet, I do not have a full schedule, we may be able to meet longer. I will need advance notice the day before you would like to meet for an appointment so I can plan my day accordingly. I originally said I would be available from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, but for the time being, I would like to treat this as my "planning period." This may change over time.
- Length of work time: Please plan to dedicate 30 minutes of work time each day for your course.
- Daily fun request: Most days, I will make a daily fun request. These assignments are completely optional, but will help us stay in touch.
- Take time for yourself: I like having a schedule, so I plan to build one for our days away. You may want to do the same if you like order. If not, at least make sure you take time to get fresh air, movement, and time for things that you enjoy. Being away from school and people may be stressful for you. Make sure you incorporate enjoyable activities like crafts, reading, video games, movie watching, etc. We will also be moving a lot less if we don't make time for it. I'm not suggesting you take up a full exercise regimen, but movement helps our moods and immune systems. Take a walk around your home, do some online yoga, play with your siblings or pets if you have them, or complete some other non-strenuous physical activity you enjoy. If you are a gym person, think of ways you can modify your activities so they can be performed at home.
- Remember: This is new to all of us. I will be understanding of you, and I ask the same in return. We are all navigating this as a team. There are sure to be bumps in the road, but we will work through them together. As I said in my letters, I am proud of you!
