Warm-up 3: How many copies of DNA would you have after 7 rounds of PCR?
1. Lab: Paperclip PCR 2. Restriction enzyme practice PCR lab questions 1.Describe the 3 main steps in PCR 2.What steps were used in OUR LAB to mimic the steps? 3.How were the steps we used in our lab different from real PCR (besides not using real DNA)? 4.What is the purpose of the primer in PCR? 5.Explain the importance of PCR as a discovery as it relates to genetic studies. Be thorough. 6.The person who discovered PCR won a Nobel Prize in chemistry. Do you think this process is worthy of a Nobel Prize? Why or why not? 7.Besides having more paperclips, how would you improve this lab so it is more like REALPCR? 8.How many copies of DNA would you get after 4 rounds? 17 rounds? 20 rounds? 117 rounds? HW: GMO food day tomorrow, bring your food. Answer the following questions in your notebook: 1. Does your food contain GMOs? 2. How do you know? 3. Which ingredients?
