What did we do in class today?
1. Web Quest Web Quest links Brain http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/kinser/Structure1.html Synapse http://www.mind.ilstu.edu/flash/synapse_1.swf The Synapse and Learning (and exercises) http://outreach.mcb.harvard.edu/animations/synaptic.swf Immune system questions from activity handout:
1. Describe, in the detail, the three lines of defense- include the environmental conditions, the proteins, and the tissues and cells involved. 2. Differentiate between specific and non-specific immunity in mammals. 3. Explain the role of Helper T cells in the humoral response AND the cell mediated response. 4. Explain why the B cell response is called the humoral response. 5. Explain why the T cell response is called the cell mediated response. 6. Explain, in detail, the steps involved in T Cell and B Cell activation. Begin with pathogen recognition. Do not forget to include the role of macrophages, antigens, CD4s, helper T cells, cytokines, cytotoxic T cells, memory T cells, plasma cells, memory B cells, antibodies, antigen receptors. 7. Explain how the inflammatory response helps prevent infection- to which line of defense does the inflammatory response belong? Explain your choice. 8. Explain why the second exposure to a specific pathogen is less severe and ends more rapidly than the first exposure. 9. Draw a graph that illustrates the difference between the first and second exposure to a specific antigen. Title and label it appropriately.
